Anchorage

Anchorage was super cool. I would be able to live in Anchorage. They have a Nordstrom. That is how I judge if a city is any good or not, if there is a Nordy's or Saks, they are okay in my book! They also had lots of great restaurants and breweries. It is also really pretty, surrounded by snow capped, jagged mountains and right on the water.

Upon arriving in Anchorage, we were trying to find our hotel at about 10 pm and since the sun was still out, you tend to forget how late it is. We were staying in a touristy area and there were a bunch of people dressed in club clothes staggering around and we were like what is wrong with these people?! Then it hit me, they were drunk and bar hopping! I forgot it was after 10pm!

We were only in Anchorage for one morning before we had to drive to Seward and the Fromers book said to go on a walking tour of downtown. So at 8 am Saturday morning we were out on a walking tour and, I kid you not, AJ ran into one of his JAG buddies. It was one of those weird oh my God! I cannot believe you actually know someone here! His friend had been stationed at Fort Richardson, unbeknownst to us, and was entertaining some friends for the weekend and they were also going to Seward that afternoon so we made plans to meet up with them for a drink! It is a very small world when you're in the Army.

Some photos from our walking tour:
AJ pictured with the bears of Justice in front of the courthouse!

This photo is for my old roomie Christina who is from Ketchikan, AK.
We didn't make it to Ketchikan, but we did see some totem poles in Anchorage that were carved by an artist from Ketchikan!

The starting line for the Iditarod sled dog race, which is 1,150 miles in length and finished in Nome, AK.

AJ loved this topographical map installation on one of Anchorage's most famous building...JK it's on the side of a strip club!

A sculpture outside the Anchorage Museum of Art. It is a crouching human.

Anchorage also had a space installation throughout the city and it was to scale.
This is the starting point at the Sun. The furthest plant was located miles away! Very cool installation!

The Catholic Cathedral which is built with an Art Deco design. The hung over guy on the corer with his cig and coffee would not move. He was not waiting to cross the street. Maybe he was speaking to God.

The drive to Seward!
